Pharma trends: Convenience and Compliance

This is the first in a series of articles examining the role packaging will play in some of the key trends in the pharma industry, and will focus on convenience and compliance. Future articles will examine safety, in both production and final product, as well as increasing automation and efficiency.
 
Redefining compliance and convenience 

Convenience in the medical product arena is defined by products that are both easier to use (convenience) and easier to use correctly (compliance). Single use medical products are a growing area that illustrates the merger between packaging and product, requiring integration and expertise from the packaging industry. The trend toward pre-filled syringes for vaccines, heparin, cardiovascular products and new biotech drugs, provides a good example.
